Cambelt Replacement

The cambelt keeps different moving parts of the engine in sync with one another. Normally made from reinforced fabrics and rubber, cambelts require replacement if they start to stretch or wear. The manufacturer will recommend an interval for a cambelt change, but they differ from engine to engine. Proper maintenance of your vehicle’s cambelt is essential. If the cambelt stretches and loses timing or if it snaps, it can cause catastrophic engine failure, and a very expensive repair. Not sure when your cambelt is due? We can answer that for you.

Cambelt vs chain

Some engines will be fitted with a metal chain instead of a rubber belt. Chains are generally designed to last the lifetime of the engine without the need to change them. However, sometimes a chain can break or ‘stretch’ like a cambelt, causing similar drastic consequences.

When is my cambelt due?

The recommended service interval for a cambelt varies from engine to engine. Normally the recommendation is given as a period of years or a number of miles, whichever comes first. A typical cambelt change interval is around 10 years, or 100,000 miles, but your vehicle could be different. Our service team will be able to advise you on the service interval for your vehicles cambelt.
