Wet Belt Replacement

A wet belt is a type of cambelt that serves to keep different parts of the engine running together in sync. Unlike a traditional cambelt, a wet belt is inside the engine itself, running in oil – hence the term ‘wet belt’. If the engine in your vehicle is fitted with this type of cambelt, then it will require periodic replacement. Because the belt is inside the engine, it is a more time consuming job to service, requiring specialist tools and expertise. We are experienced at replacing all types of wet belts.

Why you should have your wet belt changed with us

Some garages will do the minimum amount of work possible when carrying out this type of job to reduce their costs – if they are willing to take on the job at all. This can be a false economy, potentially storing up future issues with your engine. We offer a complete wet belt service. It is important to use genuine parts and calibrated torque tools to make sure that everything is within the manufacturer’s tolerances. For example, we carry out the following work when replacing the wet belt on a Ford EcoBoost engine:

  • Replace cambelt
  • Disassemble the sump and clean or replace the filter as necessary
  • Clean or replace turbo feed gauze strainer
  • Replace engine manifold
  • Replace exhaust gasket
  • Replace water pump seals
  • Replace oil pump belt
  • Replace crankshaft pully bolt
  • Oil and filter change

Should you be worried if your car has a wet belt

Generally - NO. Many popular models from major manufactures feature engines with wet belts. Including Ford, Vauxhall, Honda, Volkswagen, Audi, Peugeot, Citroen and Toyota. Millions of vehicles on the road reliably function with a wet belt. With any vehicle, it is important to make sure that you regularly carry out oil and filter services, and perhaps slightly more so if your engine is fitted with a wet belt to help avoid prematurely degrading the belt itself.
