Tyres
Your tyres are the only part of your car that contacts the road. Making proper contact with the road surface is vital to keeping your vehicle safe. If your tyres are old or worn, then it shouldn't be ignored.
Tyre puncture and TPMS light
If your tyre is losing pressure, then you could have a puncture. In some cases, tyre punctures can be professionally repaired by fitting a specialised plug. Depending on the size of the puncture and its position on the tyre, your tyre may need to be replaced. Modern cars are fitted with Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) which will give you a visual warning if the pressure in a tyre is low. These systems are handy to notify you of an issue with your tyres before it becomes a major problem. However, sometimes the TPMS system itself can have a fault and will display a warning message when there is nothing wrong with your tyres. We can help to diagnose and repair TPMS systems.
Tyre tread depths
Most new tyres will start life with approximately 8 mm of tread depth. The legal limit for tread depth on your tyres is 1.6 mm. Apart from the safety concerns of driving on tyres with a low tread depth, you could be issued with a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre that doesn't meet the legal limit. This means that driving your car on four illegal tyres is enough of a reason for you to get 12 points and lose your driving licence.
Replacing your tyres
We can replace most tyres on the same day. We offer a range of tyres to suit all budgets from premium to budget tyres. We do not recommend or fit ""part worn' tyres. As part of the tyre change process, we will balance your new tyres to make sure everything is running smoothly.
Uneven tyre wear
Your tyre should wear evenly across with width of the tyre. If part of your tyre is wearing quicker, or if part of the tyre is bald then it could indicate that there is a problem with your vehicle's suspension or tracking. If your car is front or rear wheel drive it is normal for the two tyres on the driven axle to wear quicker than the other tyres.
